Xavier Griggs Commits To UC Davis
More breaking news here at the NWPR War Room deep inside our Head Quarters. A call from Davis, California can only mean one thing. A recruit is calling from UC Davis. We knew who it was.
One of the top guys left not pledged to anyone is Central Catholic’s Xavier Griggs. The 6’2″-230 pound fierce linebacker / RB who was in on every play it seemed in 2012 was making a play for his future and wanted us to have the news.
“I am committed to UC Davis to play football,” said Griggs.
The young man had several offers from Big Sky schools. So why UC DAVIS?
“The Coaches are great. UC Davis feels like a second home to me. Also coach Gould is good friends with Anthony Newman. I really want to give a shout out to him because he was the one who put in a good word for me and made it happen,” said Xavier. ”To me he is like a second father.”
High praise for Newman who is a Coach at Central Catholic and is a graduate of Beaverton High School, an Oregon Duck, and a NFL Veteran. He in many ways has been the face of Oregon Prep Football these past few decades so his help was huge according to Griggs.
Then there is the California connection.
“I did want to be in Cali. I originally wanted to be here because I have family and my sister goes to school in San Fran, which is like an hour away from Davis,” added the big Linebacker admitting he loves the Golden State.
So how does it feel to know he has found a home and that all the work paid off?
“This commitment means a lot. Starting back years ago working so hard…and now all of it is paying off,” concluded Griggs. ” Now my real life starts and I can start my future.”
Well there he goes! A top prospect off the Board! They will keep rolling in one after the next so stay with us and like us over at Facebook. Join i the discussion!
