Turman Takes His Shot At UW As Preferred Walk On

Ryan Turman had a really nice season for himself over at Interlake High and he garnered a lot of interest from schools around the West.  But to date the 6'1"-185 Pound WR – Athlete has not been able to gain a full offer.  So as some schools like Nevada continued to close in on him he was not sure what to do.

Then a call came in last week that helped him sort it all out.

Ryan spoke with us this week about what happened.

"Well, I woke up Sunday morning to a message from UW Coach Sirmon telling me to call him.  I immediately responded and called.  I was expecting more of a call of just checking in.  At first that is how it started, then they extended the offer (to be a prefgerred walk on).  I was beyond excited. I couldn't even process what to say.  I told him'Thank you very much coach'," offered Turman.

What did he do after that?

"After we hung up I talked to Myles Jack and Budda Baker about it and they said "congratulations". Then Myles ased me if I was going to commit.  Thats when it hit me. I had forgotten to commit.  The next day I called Coach Sirmon after School and gave them my commitment.  My coach talked to him on the phone that night and told him that they liked my commitment," he added.

So we asked Ryan what they are looking at him for positin wise?

"I will be going to UW as a WR. I think it is going to work out great.  I already love the team and coaching staff.  I've had the chance to meet a lot of them.  I have a great relationship with my position coach and we both are excited for next year."

So what is the next step?

"I am taking an official visit in December and I am really looking foward to that.  I was talking to David Ajamu and we are trying to take it together.  The big question that people have asked me is what will I do if these schools showing me interest offer (Nevada, Utah, WSU and Idaho).  My answer to that as of now is that I will take it into consideration, but right I am a Husky, and I dont think that is going to change."

Then we had to ask.  What has the process been like?  What is he most looking forward to at the UW?

"It is going to be an honor to play for Coach Sarkisian and I couldnt ask for anything better.  He is a tremendous coach and person," said an excited Turman.

Well a lot of kids are struggling not knowing what to do right now.  Ryan is not one of them.  He is very talented and is only going to get better.  Walking on is no guarantee but for those like Ryan who are willing to put there money where their mouth is and run with the bulls it can pay off big.  This is the way this kid is built.

Best of luck to RT and the Dawgs!
