This is really big news tonight folks and we had to share. One of the best Quarterbacks in the NW this year is Auburn Riversides QB Kevin Thomson. We have covered him quite a bit the past few weeks as his effort and his teams 5-0 standing demanded that. And the big physical QB that loves to pass and run has been humble and hungry in his approach to the rest of the year and recruiting.
Today he was contacted by the UNLV Running Rebels and to his surprise they made him an offer to be their QB of the future and gave him a scholarship. This was the first offer for Thomson and while it may not be his last it is the case that D-1 offers have been very scarce the past 2 months in the NW. Kevin did this the old fashioned way. He actually earned it on the field and with very little press or other fanfare. We love it when we are right. If you play hard, have the skills, and keep your grades up you will be found and get a shot from someone. And just because you do not hear from colleges does not mean they are not watching. The UNLV staff has been watching and picked up on the press he was generating.
Here is Kevin on the matter.
NWPR- Kevin this is amazing! How did this offer happen?
KT- Coach Tim Rosenbach called, he is the Offensive coordinator and the QB Coach. And he just said that he had seen my film of my Junior season and this year too and congratulated me on the good start we have had. He said that I fit in really well with the system that they have at UNLV. He said I was the Top Guy on their list for QB’s and that they wanted to offer me a Full Ride to come and play for them!
NWPR- Were you surprised?
KT: I was very surprised. I had never spoken to them but had sent my film in there before last year and never got a response so I figured they were probably not interested. Coach said they had watched it and liked the progress from last year to this year.
NWPR: I assume your happy?
KT: Very happy! I have just been waiting for that first school to pull the trigger and give me a chance!
NWPR: What about their offense? Is it a good fit?
KT: They said they run a very similar offense to my team and what we run and that I would fit well. I would agree! I like to run an up tempo spread offense and I like to run the ball and do those quick hitting routes. I also happened to see some of their last game against New Mexico. They put up a ton of points and it was exciting to watch.
NWPR: Hard work pays off! Good luck to you and the team and your family must be very excited!
KT: Thanks Dirk. Yes they are excited and it really is true that hard work pays off. Thanks for all the coverage and we will be in touch!
NWPR: Thanks Kevin. Way to go!
Now Kevin is the only one that can take credit for his success and this offer is proof of that. NWPR did run a story on Kevin this Summer and we featured him on September 30th , 2013 at our WashingtonPreps.com site and our NWPR Site. Coincidence? You be the judge!
