The Kennewick Lions out of the Tri-Cities will ride their table setting shortstop Trek Stemp this spring. Stemp was named the Columbia Basin Big Nine League 4A most valuable player last season as a sophomore for the Leo’s. This speed merchant was also named the 1st-team All-State 4A shortstop last year. As a super sophomore Stemp roped the ball at a .563 clip, to go with 28 runs batted in and was 18 for 18 in stolen base attempts.
The Lions have moved down in classification this year and are now making hay in the 3A CBBN league. Young Mr. Stemp is now in his 3rd year as the Lions starting shortstop. As a freshman Stemp batted a solid .344 with 24 runs scored and 17 RBI’s. He was also 8 for 8 in base thefts. Trek was named Honorable-Mention All-League following his big bopping freshman
campaign.
Trek Stamp is blasting his way into the 2011 Baseball season |
Flash forward to this year and Stemp hasn’t missed a beat. He started the season by going with 4 for 4 with a triple and 2 ribbie’s in a 12-2 win over Eisenhower. Trek then smacked a triple and a long ball in a 8-4 win over Hermiston.
Last Friday Trek hit a round tripper in the Lions opening game win over Hanford, 11-7. He followed that up by going 3 for 5 with a double and triple, as Kennewick completed the sweep with a 13-6 victory over the Falcons.
Stemp is 5’10” 165 pounder with some serious wheels. He is the leadoff hitter for the pesky Lions squad, and also flashes some big time leather defensively.
