Seen here with his off season Coach John Charles of Air One Football. Kaleb was an MVP at the NWEFC Camp this year at Mercer Island and is known to his friends as “Big Country”.

Kaleb McGary is the biggest kid in the region this year and he is one of the biggest recruits too.  A 4 Star prospect McGary is holding onto 20 plus offers and many of those are from the Nation’s finest schools.  The 6’8″+ 280 pound Tight End, Tackle, or Defensive End is enjoying his Senior year at Fife High School and has helped the team to a 4-1 mark.  They are playing well and Kaleb feels this is a year they can make a playoff run.

And while he is primarily focused on that goal he has to address the recruiting issues.

Kaleb McGary just destroyed other athletes at the NWEFC Camp this June proving he can play on both sides of the ball.

Some of the pressing matters include identifying the finalists he wants to chose from and then he has to find time to take an official visit to each; something that is much harder then he thought it was going to be.

“Every official visit could take 2-3 days just to fit in and make happen and right now during the season I just do not have the time.  But I was hopeful I would have,” said the big agile phenom who wears a Cowboy hat, cranks up the Country-Western, and yes…even drives a truck.

So what McGary is going to do is try and get one or two official trips in between now and the end of the football season if he can and then take 2 or 3 more at the end of the year and in early January.  After that he will be ready to select a school.

Final Schools On Kaleb McGary’s College List

Drum roll please!  In nor Order here are the final 4 – or 5!

  1. Oregon Ducks
  2. Boise State Broncos
  3. Washington Huskies
  4. Oregon State Beavers
  5. Contenders: Wisconsin or USC

Ok so what comes next?

“Man I have some tough choices to make.  I am thinking through naming Wisconsin and or USC.  I need to think about that and one of those schools might make the final 5.  Then it is a matter of getting to each school and just making sure I ask all the right questions, see all the things I need to see, and to discuss with each school where they plan to use me and how I fit in,” he added.

Kaleb has OSU liking him a lot as a left tackle; the one spot most insiders think a kid of these skills can really exceed and have a future at.  The Huskies saw him laying waste to guys at camps and have decided they are leaning towards defense.  The Ducks are telling they do not know and that he can choose.  And Boise State dittoed that one.  The big man plays a mean tight-end and would like a shot there in college.  Some of the finalists pledged he could try out at TE and we believe he has the speed and skills to do it.  But it may not be his best move.

USC and Wisconsin have made their intentions pretty clear but Kaleb is looking to see what they each do in the next few weeks and he may add one of them or neither of them to the final list.

“This is going to be interesting.  I am watching carefully what is happening at Oregon.  I have been very impressed by the UW and what they are doing.  And BSU and OSU I love for many reasons.  My choice will not be an easy one as all of these are terrific places to play and close to home!”

Getting to the Ducks VS Huskies game is next up.  And he is taking some family this weekend to the new and awe inspiring Husky Stadium.  What a battle that might be.   At that game he is going to watch everything about each team and look for things that tip him off as to which choice is best.  This young guy has his head on very straight and a great family but he has fears of making a wrong choice as more and more stories come out of kids leaving their schools or not fitting in.

The millions and now billions being made off of College Football is reason enough for recruits big and small to look out for #1.  And he is going to do that for sure.

“Alabama was in touch a lot.  And that still is in the works but I would need to get out there and really get to know them in a hurry and they have not offered yet.  Also I learned this last Summer by being out on the road for long periods of time with my AAU Hoops team (the NW Panthers) that I am not a guy that wants to be far from home and family,” said Kaleb.  “I am a guy that wants to and needs to be near family and friends.”

Thus the close grouping of his Final 4.

Folks this is a kid that is so big and so physical he is one of the new era big men who have rewritten how people think about a how big a TE/DE can or should be.   Time will tell where Kaleb will end up.

One thing is for sure.  This big Cowboy is closing in on a decision that will make he, his family, and some lucky team very happy indeed.
