Kaleb McGary is leading the linemen and big men in the Class of 2014 and he added to his total over the weekend with offer #7.  This time the Cal Bears struck looking to land a shot at the 6’8″- 270 pound talent from Fife High School in Fife, Washington.  We caught up to him to help break the story on this one.

“I was honestly a little surprised at the offer.  I had heard from them over the summer and in the season but I haven’t heard anything in quite a while,” said Kaleb.  “I still get that big grin on my face and do the whole fist pound thing as  I have as much interest in this school as I do anywhere at this point.   I’m just keeping my eyes open and being open minded. I’m not crossing anyone off my list just yet.”

This was a great outlook from the big man who has been told he will play anywhere from Tight End to Offensive Guard or Tackle.  All of which he is fine with.

It was one year ago we spotted McGary at the Air One Football Camp and got to know he and his family a bit.  At that time we had advised him that the size and skill he had would make him a jot prospect.  At the time he really could not understand how serious we were but he thanked us for the belief.

Now he looks back and talks about how far he has come and what a difference a year of hard work can make.

“I feel as if I’ve come along way as a person.  There has been so much change in such a short time.  I feel I’ve come quite a ways as an athlete ;  but I still have much to improve upon.  I have sure come quite a ways from what I was though,” he replied reflecting on his added size and power and the fact that his family moved from Battleground to Fife.

Are things ahead of where he thought they would be?

“Honestly I always had big dreams but I really never expected much.  I never really considered myself much above average.  I just kept working and doing what I was coached to do,” said the agile giant who trains with Ryan Paul at New Athlete.  “To have 7 major offers was not something I really expected”

Cal joins Oregon, OSU, WSU, UW, Utah, and ASU who all have offered Kaleb.  Nebraska, Notre Dame, FSU, and LSU have some interest as well.

Kaleb McGary remains one of the hottest prospects in the West and it is hard to see how that is going to change anytime soon.
