Budda Baker (Bellevue HS) and Kaleb McGary (Fife HS) are two of the last big recruits in the NW Region who have not pulled the trigger yet . Budda has a Championship Game Friday with the Wolverines as they take on Eastside Catholic for the 3A WIAA State Title. McGary has been done for a while and is well into his Senior basketball season. Both of these guys have short lists of schools they are close to committing to.
For McGary he is one step closer tonight as he has eliminated the Oregon Ducks from his list. We caught up to Kaleb to go over what was happening.
“I spoke with one of the coaches from UO and then my father before the official visit and we just decided that it (Oregon) was not the best fit for me. I did not want to waste their time and we just decided it was not the best fit, and I didn’t want to waster their time or money so I thanked them for the scholarship offer and wished then the best,” said McGary.
So who is left int he running for the 6’8″ 270 pound star athlete?
“As of now the UW, BSU, OSU, and Wisconsin are my top 4 in no particular order, and I hope to take visits to all should time permit.”
There is little doubt that this Seattle are kid and his family like the UW a lot. Sark leaving has caused some real concerns but in speaking to Kaleb he is starting to understand that the decision can never rest on a Coach or a Coach’s persona. He has mentioned Justin Wicox as someone he very much looks up to! Maybe he will get the job and maybe he won’t but one thing is for sure. The Huskies are not out of the running on Baker or McGary and this 1-2 Punch is two recruits that could make or break a schools recruiting class.
We wish Kaleb the very best as he continues to narrow the search for a perfect fit.
No Ducks For Kaleb McGary.
