Ragin Lands Cal and Looks At Others

Johnny Ragin of Wilsonville put out a terrific year top to bottom. And it is paying off as he is continuing to gather interest from Pac 12 schools.

Ragin Lands Cal and Looks At Others

He has been one of the hottest recruits all season and proved his stock was rising and that he was not all about just Media Hype.  Johnny Ragin of Wilsonville put out a terrific year top to bottom.  And it is paying off as he is continuing to gather interest from Pac 12 schools.

This week his offer came in from California even as the Golden Bears were looking for a new Head Coach.

"Coach Ron Gould was here and met with me and the family at home.  He answered a lot of questions we had and during the final part of the in home meeting he made me an offer to play for the team," said an always cool Ragin.

It sounds like Gould, who has been a mainstay in NW recruiting for Cal, will be staying on for sure.  And Ragin told us he would watch and see who got the Head Job this week and make that part of his decision making relevant to Cal.

Johnny Ragin is now 6'3" and 210 pounds and will only get bigger. By the end of The Opening pundits will be able to judge his ability against the best in the Nation but so far he has looked superb!

Well overnight as we prepared this story Cal hired Louisiana Tech Head Coach Sonny Dykes.  Coach Dykes is known for the Spread Offense and putting up points like no other.  Some feel he is the next Chip Kelly.  But while Gold Bear fans seem split on this new hire Johnny is not concerned.

"I will visit Cal and decide what is right for me.  It is no doubt one of the best academic schools in the Country and that was a big offer for me."

Gould told Ragin either side of the ball was possible and Johnny who is now 6'3"- 215 pounds is thinking that is a good thing.

He now holds offers from Cal, OSU, and Colorado as well as a host of smaller schools.  Other big name schools like Notre Dame, Boise State, and Oregon seem to be getting closer and are staying in close contact with him.  In the meantime he is lifting, running, and preparing for Track season in the Spring.
