One of our Top recruits for 2014 is O’Dea High School’s Jarius McDade. Certainly he is one of the very best Defensive Tackles in the class from the West. At 6’2″- and 300 lbs McDade is a prototype low leverage guy. His size is obvious but it is his explosive mass and his quick feet that really set him apart.
Next to Marcus Griffin of Bellevue McDade is “the guy” to get if your a college looking to bolster your team in between the Tackles along the defensive line.
And that is more then just hyperbole. His film showcases this and when you see him live, particularly with pads on, the whole picture falls into place.
Catch his 2012 Campaign Here and watch him inflict his special brand of punishment. Great vision and ability to drive O-Linemen into the QB collapsing the play Ol’ Skool.
When Jarius called this weekend to share with us the news that he had an offer from Idaho we were not surprised. These Vandals had quite a week offering 4 or 5 of the Regions best. McDade was the latest in that onslaught led by Head Coach Paul Petrino.
So how is he feeling now that he has broken through and landed his first offer?
“It feels amazing honestly. I’m Just happy to have a chance to go and compete at the the next level you know,” said McDade still taking it all in.
We confirmed it was for Defensive Tackle as expected.
“Yes of course DT and I really am ready to show colleges what I can do and what I can offer to a D1 program,” he added saying this Idaho offer was a great option for him and no doubt was a big step in living out his football dreams.
Checking in with him on other schools we found out that Boise State, Colorado State, the UW, Neveda, Utah, ASU, SDSU, WSU and CAL are all in contact with him and even Oregon is looking close too.
“I will be attending the Nike NFTC Camp at Oregon and probably making a stop at Mercer Island too for the NW Elite Sports Camp (former Gesser Camp) in addition to making it to some schools for Summer camp.”
Off the field he is training and working on his speed and agility as well as maintaining a 3.4 GPA. A serious contender to land Pac 12 offers most of that will depend on how he does being evaluated directly by college coaches during the off season and how his Senior year goes. Let there be no doubt that Jarius McDade is a D-1 prospect and that is exactly where he is heading after High School.
Great news and best wishes to the hard working young man from O’Dea in the coming months.
