Jackson Keimig Solidifies D-1 Status With First Collegiate Offer

A quick review of the process of recruiting allows one to check where they are at.  You don’t just jump from nothing to a Major Program unless you have a very special story to tell.  To be clear not that many of our NW football recruits will be holding an offer in their hands when signing day comes next February.  Having an offer is of course what everyone wants but few will have one early.  For those that do break through and land an offer it will only be verbal until colleges can send out written offers starting this Fall.  The process we are in now is the beginning of the Verbal offer phase. Getting any offer is great with most guys landing a D-1 AA Big Sky level offer if they are on the very top of the list; an even smaller number will land full D-1 offers.

Jackson Keimig (#3) for Bothell was impressive last season and we expect bigger things this year.

One guy we have covered quite a bit recently is Jackson Keimig of Bothell High School.  The 6’3″ now 220 lb speedster has been landing some solid attention and he and his family have been executing on a very well put together recruiting plan with the help of some excellent input.  Part of that plan are trips to schools who have showed the most love in terms of letters and calls and the like.  This weekend it was time to hit Phase 1; a stop at the Idaho Vandals and a recruiting visit.  It went off with perfection and by the end of the trip Jackson was heading back to Bothell from the gem State with his first offer in hand.

“Coach Petrino (Paul) offered me a full ride to play H back / Tight End for the Vandals.  I am wowed and just so grateful at the same time,” said the super poised Junior.  “This is big for sure and it is still sinking in!”

He and his Mom got the full tour of course and had a chance to visit the facilities and the school itself.  Keimig said he went in not expecting too much and left feeling great about the Vandals and what they had to offer.

“The whole set up was great.   Coach Shumaker spent time with us as the recruiting coordinator.  Then we met the entire offensive staff and the Tight Ends Coach Al Pupunu spent over an hour with me telling me about the offense and what they do there.  It was great meeting with him.  Then we had a nice meeting with Coach Petrino and he made the offer.”

How is he feeling and is the road ahead any easier now?

“You know that is a great question.  I would say I am relieved you know to have the offer and to know my college is going to be paid for.  At the same time I have never felt more motivated to do better and to raise the bar.  To know someone like that believe in you confirms things.  For me this is going to let me relax a little and focus a little more on what comes next,” said Jackson!

Phase 2 is a visit to UC Davis in California as they have been after him for a long time and he really wants to see what they have to offer.  This plan to target coaches and schools and go out and press the flesh is a calculated move and for Jackson it worked.  It will work for others too as technology is causing a backlash and Coaches are left wondering if the digital person they are recruiting is really any good.  This approach, the one to one approach, is one thing we preach.

  • Grades-  No Grades – No Play!  Period.
  • First Priority – Get in Front of College Coaches – Over all things this Rules! Get to Spring Practice, Junior Days, Campus Tours-
  • Second – Attend showcase camps if colleges are there – The main one in the NW is the NW Elite Football Camp on June 6th, 2014 – Get There! 125-150 Coaches will be there.
  • Third – Media events like Mini-camps and Combines are Ok but really have no cache in the recruiting world if no one is there – Coaches generally are not at these events.  So make sure there is Major National Media coverage or maybe save your money.
  • SPEED and Agility – This is the great separator in recruiting at all positions-  Get faster and more explosive then anyone else and your stock will rise.
  • Skill – Always time to develop your skill- work on it year around when time allows.

Jackson Keimig is winning the recruiting battle tonight- his 3.9 GPA is golden.  His plan to meet coaches is paying off and will continue to do so.  And he has all the other items listed above dialed in too.
