Drew Clarkson Declares OSU Will Be His Home

The top offensive linemen in the Pacific Northwest is officially off the board.  Drew Clarkson of Camas High School has made his choice and it will be Oregon State.  This is the 5 th major recruit the Beavers have landed from the NW region this season after securing the services of top rated QB/ATH Tanner Sanders (6’5″- 218 lbs) of Crescent Valley HS, linebacker Ryan Nall (6’3″-235 lbs)of Central Catholic, Defensive End Shane Bowman (6’3″-240 lbs), and QB Nick Mitchell (6’2″- 190 lbs) from Mt Si High school.  All and all they have the best recruiting class in the Region so far.

Clarkson had 6 offers; 5 of them Pac 12 and did visits at UW, WSU, and Cal before picking Oregon State.  With those powerhouse schools in the lineup he talked about why Oregon State stood out.

“The Coaches, and campus, the other guys were all perfect.  It feels like family there and that to me was the perfect fit,” said an excited kid.

He spoke with me about the fit.  He was not going to let bigger stadiums, nicer gear, better rankings, or things that are not going to further his future get in the way of him making the right decision.  During the week much has been published about Colt Lyerla leaving Oregon.  And truly while all the pundits and speculators write their version of what happened I know first hand that the fit was wrong.  That led to Colt leaving as much or more then anything.

“The sense of family is amazing.  The coaches were real to me and very genuine and I have hung out with some of the players and loved it.”

He will likely be a Center or Guard and said he really can not wait to play at OSU and for Coach Cavanaugh who will be his OL Coach.  “Cav” as he is known is a Coach who has been able to get a whole lot out of his linemen and Clarkson fits the mold of the lunch pail guy that just wants to grind.

Great fit for a great kid.  Way to go Drew!
