Desmond Young Gets A Chance To Fulfill His Dreams at CWU

Desmond Young was going to be a star.  We all knew it.  Anyone that saw him in the Pre-season camps or who watched his Junior film all agreed.

This kid was “special” with a capital S!  And it was clear the young man from Edmonds-Woodway was feeling it too as he dominated in drills and was a physical specimen.   Desmond Young 980

But life has a way of trying to divert and end dreams.  The crusher of spirit and hope came in the form of an early season injury.

Desmond started 2012 strong racking up several hundreds yards and scoring TD’s too.  The 5’10” -178 pound RB and DB was progressing really well before he went down.

By mid season he was out of the loop and we were not hearing much so we reached out.  Desmond reached back glad to know someone still cared.  When your out of the lime light your out and that darkness is a tough place to be.  Especially when you have to watch other rise and take their turn getting college offers and attention.

He spoke of his frustration and his fears of being left behind.  But he never doubted himself.

Young never gave up.  He worked in rehab to come back and with single minded determination he did just that.  He returned for the last 3 or 4 games of the year and was able to string together one big performance after another.

With just enough film to show what he could do he was able to get the word out.  Colleges looked and seemed to  like what they saw.

The D-1 schools were full up however at his position.   It looked like PSU or EWU might have a spot for a kid like him with a 4.48 40 and Nasty moves but it was just too late to gain a Full Ride.

That took him to the one place that a lot of All State guys end up in the Evergreen State.

Ellensburg, Washington.

That is the home of the Central Washington Wildcats.  The National powerhouse D-2 program is no joke.  Gaining a scholarship there is an honor and a privilege.  If you have been there and watched a game you know what I mean.

So off he went this past weekend hoping that he might work out an option and see if it was somewhere he could fit in.  What he found was a wonderful thing indeed.

“I loved it!  I will be a running back and have decided to commit to CWU!  I liked everything I saw,” said a fired up Young. “I loved the players,  the Coaches.  And I loved that they are a dominating football program.  I love that it is close to home.  And I feel like there I will have a chance to try and become an All American.”

Big praise and big plans.  The same plans he had a year ago before he injury.  He is going to work and work and we don’t doubt he can do it.

He has also a chance to do one more thing he said that matters more then anything and why he has not regrets and only joy as he moves ahead to CWU.

“I get another chance to prove myself!”

In the end that is all any athlete really wants.

Watch out for this young man folks.   He is special and will certainly be with one of the very best programs in the Nation!
