David Ajamu of Shelton High landed the offer last week to the University of Washington. And even though he was committed to Oregon State Verbally he had stated this opened things up.
Once he and his family sat down and really began to talk through things it did not take him long to get the plus and minus columns totaled up.
"Based on several factors I am committing to the University of Washington. That is going to be my final decision," said the 6'5" Ajamu.
His rare combination of speed and size has the Washington coaches chomping at the bit. Because in him they see many of the hallmarks that have made Austin Seferian Jenkins one of the premier Tight Ends in the Nation.
If David gets to the Dawgs and begins right away to work under the tutelage of ASJ the thought is that he can fill that role in his second year. No one around football is foolish enough to things Jenkins will stay after next year.
"That was part of it. Being able to work with Austin and gain that knowledge is a huge factor," he added. "Being closer to home for my family was big too."
No doubt that the Huskies may need him more too. Oregon State has several young big talented Tight Ends. And that would mean waiting longer to play. Something no player really wants to have to do.
This is a big commitment because Ajamu rose so fast as an athlete and a prospect in the off season that most colleges still have not had a chance to figure out how good he is. Well that is of no concern now. This guy is a Dawg!
The Shelton High Climber says he will graduate in June and head for UW this Summer. So things are good in his world and all is on track. Congrats to David for this huge accomplishment and to the Huskies as well. Job well done guys!
