One of the best receivers/cornerbacks in the Class of 2015 in the entire NW is Chiawana Riverhawk Dre Dorton.  After landing an offer a few weeks back from Idaho Dre has been getting it done on both sides of the ball.  The returning State Champs in the 4A division in Washington have a young squad this season but Dorton and guys like star Running Back Austin Urlacher have made a case for a repeat.

In the opener they lost to Camas on the road in a replay of last years Title Game.  The game was close and Camas pulled away at the end to win by a narrow margin.  Since then the Rivaerhawks have not lost but have had some fairly close games.

“We made to many mistakes in the Camas game,” admitted Dorton.  “Who knows maybe we will get another shot at them.  It was a fun and competitive game for sure.”

Last week he landed his second offer from Eastern Washington University.  After thinking about things Dre wasted no time in making a decision.

“I love the school and the coaches and there are a lot of kids on the team that I know as well,” said Dre who indicated his Uncle had played there and the connections to Cheney are pretty tight.

Idaho wants him at defense.  With 3 Pick 6 Touchdowns this season from his corner sport we can all see why.  EWU just wants him and are considering how to use his talents.  Dre is fast, agile, and a beast on special teams.  At 5’10” and 175 lbs. he looks the part of a prototype Corner Back.

“It’s been a fun year.  I have 4 TD’s on Offense and have 17 catches for 290 yards roughly.  On defense I have a few picks and 3 I brought back for Touchdowns.  Some knock downs and other big plays.  I have even thrown 4 passes from my punters spot or from a fly sweep play,” said Dorton.  “It’s going good and we really want to move on and have another shot to win it all.”

In an emotional moment last week at the start of the Kennewick game injured Riverhawk and coaches son Mac Graff returned after breaking his spine.  The picture here tells it all.  Read the story of Mac Graff we covered here last month.

“That was emotional.  He is dealing with a lot but to have him there was so special,” added Dre.

Injured Riverhawk MacGraff returned to the sideline in October.

No doubt winning it all will be hard this season with Bothell looking unstoppable and several other teams including Camas rolling into the playoffs.  One thing we know is that Dre Dorton is a special talent and another great kid from the NW.  This is a great outcome for him and the Chiawana community.
