Camas Beats Federal Way And Punches T-Dome Ticket

They were there last year. And they made it again this season. The Road to the Tacoma Dome has been a long one for some schools. For Camas that was true when they were a 3 A School. They were there last year.  And they made it again this season.  The Road to the Tacoma Dome has been a long one for some schools.  For Camas that was true when they were a 3 A School.  But this season as a 4A School after moving up to the biggest division in Washington they made getting there look easy.

Now 12-0 the Papermakers might have been below the radar and hiding their talents a bit.  No more.  The Seattle-Tacoma dominated football landscape got a loud wake up call last Saturday as #2 Federal Way fell to the boys from Camas.  So the element of surprise is gone for the most part.

Led by the amazing Junior Nate Beasley at Running back who had 249 yards and 5 TD's the Papermakers simply rolled over Federal Way who had some nice drives and made a lot of big plays but just could not turn back the Camas offense.  Nor could they stop the opportunistic Defense.

It was 14-0 within the first 55 seconds.  And it was not long after that the route seemed to be on.

Believe it or not the Papermakers scored 51 points in the first half and the running clock rule was on.

Star QB Reilly Hennessey was pretty quiet going 12-14, 2 TD's and 38 yards rushing.  But he managed the offense beautifully and frankly he did not have to do very much.  Beasley was amazing as were the offense linemen for Camas led by Drew Clarkson and Matt Walser among others,

Federal Way put up big numbers too believe it or not.  They were not able to do a lot of things they normally do.

Read Paul V's article for the real scoop on the numbers.

For me as an analyst I saw a difference maker for the 2nd time this season.  Kicker Roldan Alcobendas is the real deal.  In Fact I do not recall seeing a kid with this consistent of a leg who can kick it so deep for a long time.

The Papermakers scored 9 times.  And I counted 7 or 8 that went out the back of the end zone.  When you do that against any team you pin them into their end of the field and it is tough.

Against Federal Way it took out of the game their biggest weapon; their return game.  When you have guys like Chico "The Blue Mamba" McClatcher, D'londo Tucker, Michael Tate, Marcel Morris, Jeremiah McNeal who can all take the football to the house not able to advance it even 1 yard your in for a long night.

Knowing the had the Eagles pinned in Coach Jon Eagle unleashed the dogs and sent blitz packages and a variety of pressure looks at the Eagles offense.  That cost them an interception and a Safety and it frustrated them early.  Had Alcobendas not pounded that rock the way he did he dynamic of the game would have been different.  Perhaps.

So the Eagles go home and think about all they accomplished in a year they went 11-1 and established themselves as a Football Power rising from last years great showing.  And folks the pipeline is full there too.  I would suspect kids who might not have thought about playing football are going to come out at Federal Way and continue to build that "Brotherhood" they all got started so strong.

The Papermakers now have a date with #1 Skyline.  They have a loaded squad and the #1 QB in the Nation in Max Browne.   The Spartans own the Dome.  But just like when Ferris beat them in the final a couple years back they can be taken down.  But until someone does it they are #1 and will remain so.  We look forward to a really great game for sure!
